Lake Charles Clean Energy Project Would Create 1,500 Construction Jobs
KPLC-TV - October 29, 2012
Economic Benefits: LCCE will create about 1,500 construction and 200 permanent jobs in Louisiana and support the state economy. LCCE will be a large customer for nearby refineries producing petcoke, energy providers and the Port of Lake Charles
Energy Benefits: LCCE will be a low-cost producer of all its products and is expected to be one of the world’s lowest-cost producer of methanol. The CO2 captured during gasification will be shipped a short distance by pipeline, then used in enhanced oil recovery operations along the Gulf Coast.
Environmental Benefits: LCCE will use petcoke, an energy-rich byproduct from refining crude oil that is often exported , then burned without controls. Our gasification technology will allow us to extract the energy from petcoke while avoiding 90 percent of most emissions.
The Lake Charles Clean Energy plant will use advanced gasification technology to avoid harmful emissions while extracting energy from petcoke.
LCCE will cleanly convert the feedstock chemically under high temperature and pressure to create clean synthesis gas with very low emissions. This low Btu synthesis gas can then be processed into clean end products.
